S-200 Wildland Initial Attack Incident Commander



This 3-day (16-hour) NWCG course is designed to meet the training needs of the incident commander type 4 (ICT-4). Much of the class will be scenario based training using the smart board. Course will begin at 1 pm Friday and ends Sunday 12pm in order to satisfy the course length.

Class will include chances to test your skills with the use of Tactical Decision Games, so it’s a great choice for anyone who is ever placed in the command role at a wildland fire.


Instructors: Mike “Hoss” Hostetler has been in wildfire suppression for 42 years. Starting out as a member of the Wyoming Hotshots, he is qualified as a Type I Operations Section Chief, Type 2 Safety Officer, Type 3 Incident Commander, Structure Protection Specialist, and Firing Boss.

A certified Fire Instructor II, teaching over 320 wildland classes to over 6,700 students and has been a subject matter expert while developing several courses.

Married to Karen for 38 years, Karen, owner of Mountain Meadow Wool Company. They have 7 children and twelve grandchildren. 

Russ Wenke began his career in the fire service as a volunteer in 1977. He completed his Fire Science Degree in 1989 and accepted a position with Park County Fire District 2 in Cody where he currently serves as the Administrator for the district and as County Fire Warden.

He is a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy and a Chief Fire Officer Designate. Russ is qualified as and regularly takes assignments as a Type II Safety Officer, Division/Group Supervisor, and Type III IC.

He loves to teach and in addition to providing regular classes in Wyoming he also has had the privilege of assisting with classes in Colorado, Arizona, Georgia, and Texas.
